maybe a little bit
it would make me feel better if the numbers said 4.9 mil a year rather than 5.3 mil a year
but, at the end, we are only talking about 400K a year difference anyway |

I like Hayes. But. I remember a couple of seasons ago where he spent the off-season participating in an intense off season workout program. The results have helped, but I don’t see him as a natural athlete. If he doesn’t continue the hard work I can see him ending up like his brother... pretty much washed up already. A long term deal of 4-5 years to me is risky, and maybe he would be the better trade chip now while he has value. I can see his weight being an issue in the future |

Also, speaking of Bigras, if he, Day, Hajek, and Lindgren are all playing in Hartford this year, that's a lot of dmen on both levels to slot in, unless several play their off side, no? Did i forget anyone. Back of napkin lines:
Lindgren Pedrie
Crawley Day
Hajek Bigras
O Gara
Skjei Shatty
Smith Pionk
Staal DeAngelo

Thanks!
I completely diasagree
Hayes adds value at both ends of the rink, something people here harped about when speaking of Rick NAsh, but he has stayed healthier than Nash and put up more points each of the last three years than Nash (~40pts a year). Add in the fact that he is much younger and that ~$5.25M number is a 33% discount from the Nash deal.(And that 33% starts to look more like 45-50% as the cap rises)
Year 2&3 he is a solid contract vs his performance. Years 4 and 5 he is a steal with the cap continuing to rise.
I like those signings Jan. |

have you seen the rapid improvement Kevin Hayes has had in faceoffs in 4 years?
You can't do that without working hard, that doesn't just happen. |

As long as Hayes continues to train at a high level in off-season and keeps on improving, he is definately worth the approx. 5 yr/.5mill contract. He can't take any steps backwards. With Quinn at the helm, I see Hayes getting even better
Sames goes for Vesey |

He is also one of the Rangers better possession players. I think his work ethic and fitness level appear to be fine. He's a little over a .5 Point/Game player at the NHL level, that is not an accident. |

Not really, that's pretty much right in line with what other comparable players are making. Cap goes up, salaries go up. |

It's very Islanders that Ryan Pulock is the only defenseman NOT signed through 2075 |

I haven't really been paying much attention but I thought Vesey was better than a sub 30 point player. |

he doesn't have a finishing touch at all
but, he works hard, still a work in progress
he really needs to have a good year |

I haven't seen a ton of Skjei (I still say there's no way that name can be pronounced "Shay"), but I've heard him talked about as the defenseman on the future for you guys. But whenever I have watched him, he looks decent, but nothing eye-popping. I mean, he's obviously better than McIlrath, but noting screams top-pair #1 to me. Again, I haven't seen him a ton. Is he just a very steady jack-of-all-trades type? |

Bad year last year, year before he was fantastic. Best Dman in the playoffs for the Rangers.
Think 2 years ago he was up in the top of the league for even strength points for defenseman. Might be wrong though, I'm pretty dumb |

if they counted up all the defensemen in NHL history who took a step back in their sophmore season the number may be in the millions |
